CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)— One family in Clinton County is celebrating the return of their child who was severely injured earlier this summer by a trailer.
"Everything has been through prayers and miracles," said Mom Heidi Long. It's hope that's kept the Long family going. "It's amazing," said Long. "I have my family under one roof again."
11-year-old Kylie Long was injured back in July. While preparing for a 4-H fair. Kylie was caught between a swinging door on a trailer attached to a pick up truck. She was airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.
"They basically told us that she was going to be a vegetable for the rest of her life," said Long. "She would never talk she would never drink on her own. We just reached out and started praying."
Kylie was at Riley for 5 weeks. She then moved to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. A physical medicine and rehabilitation research hospital based in Chicago.
"She's a fighter," said Long. "She's got a lot of spunk. So we just, we knew that she was going to overcome the odds."
The Long's along with the entire community welcomed Kylie home in October. As for Kylie, there aren't enough words to describe how she feels to be home.
"It just makes me really happy because I feel really loved," said Kylie. "Everybody is following my progress and checking and seeing how I am doing."
Kylie has movement from her torso down. But that's only due to muscle spasms. She said she'll stay #KylieStrong for herself and to positively impact others who may feel like they can't make it.
"Just keep fighting strong and know that they're going to be able to do as much stuff as they used to be able to do," said Kylie.
Kylie will start therapy in Indianapolis next week. She plans to continue her hobby of showing sheep and Llamas again at next year's 4-H fair.
