We want to remind folks that shirts will be available between 5 and 6 on July 17. Elementary girls and Jr. High girls are also free to stay and play some ball for an hour.
I want to thank the following folks for their efforts in helping with camp. Camp just would not work as well without their efforts. Coach Julie Eurit. Setters Grace Filbrun and Elizabeth Eurit. Middle Hitters Megan Herr, Lauren Worl and Bailey Worl. Left Side Hitter/DS Jeffra Bordner.

2013 Elementary Camp and Jr. High Camp are nearly done. The gyms were uncomfortable Wednesday, but not bad today. Passing - Passing - Passing! Both the elementary and Jr. high camps have passed a lot. The Jr. high also hit a ton. While pleased with the efforts from one and all, we really want to offer praise for a couple of kids. 8th grader Sydney Fisher is doing a great job of hitting over the top of the ball. The same for Jeffra Bordner. Always kind of thought of Jeffra as just a passer. Might need to rethink that a little bit. We also need to recognize the slow but steady progress of Adrienne Broughton. Morgan Clark hangs right in there! The young ones are also impressing us a great deal. 5th grader Josie Unger seems to be separating herself from the other campers in doing a little bit of everything well. It has been exciting to meet 3rd grader Daizee Myers, who does not have much experience with volleyball, but sure seems like a duck in water with the sport. 4th grader Adelle May is serving very well. Madison Dyke continues to improve in a slow and steady way. And how can you not love the smile and joy that Avery Armstrong brings to us every day? It would not be hard to say something about every student we have had for the last two days. These names just bubble to the top a little as I could not sleep and decided to type. Lets hope whoever was so kind to turn the AC on today, remembers to do so again tomorrow.
Everyone has made time! Last night we caught a nice breeze and some cloud cover which made it almost comfortable outside. Nice enough that B. Worl and S. Bordner both ran their mile under the 9 minute mark we have established for this year's team. We offer congrats to both girls. In addition, we want to recognize B. Ennis, Meghan Miller, L. Worl and L. Eller who all ran personal best times yesterday.
Since getting home, been working on getting ready for camp tomorrow. I am excited to be working with future players! However, lets focus quickly on our efforts at Tipton. Hamilton Heights - beat them. Tipton - interesting match. Crushed their JV and had to fight like heck to keep up with their varsity. Beat them 42-25. Remember, we do not keep score. :) Closed with Lewis Cass. Beat them. When was the last time a Carroll Volleyball team went somewhere, anywhere, and loaded onto a bus at the end of the night undefeated? TIp of the Cap will be tomorrow, but a quick shout out to E. Eurit, M. Willoughby, and B. Filbrun for their serving. Low man was over .450 to zone, Low man (woman) had 8 aces. Low man accounted for 12 points. WOW. B. Worl (12-1/21=.523) was the man (woman) at the net. Led us in kills (12), hitting percent (.523) and kill percent (.571). Meghan Miller provided our passing in serve receive with a 1.72 average. Hot, steamy gym, and we played well. Undefeated. Amazing to write that with Carroll Volleyball.
We ran last night on the track. We are so pleased that everyone made the required time except one player on our first timed attempt, and she will not have any problems making the 9:00 mile run. Players must run 1 mile in less than 9 minutes by our first official practice to play volleyball for the Carroll Cougars. We want to stress the conditioning to play volleyball at the level we hope to achieve. Did three rounds of core conditioning! We have some kids who have not been in the weight room with us this winter or spring who struggled a bit. They will catch up. Did University of Cincinnati lifts (how many bench lifts in 10 seconds), and E. Eurit, Madison Miller, and B. Filbrun all did a nice job. The captains meeting went well before practice, and we worked with B. Worl on adjusting her swing in relation to where the ball is to her arm. Finished the evening with a dig/passing drill the girls seemed to like and kept the setter in to work with setting a middle hitter. All-in-all, a good volleyball day.
So, how is the first entry, step three? In our efforts to "hang a number", step one was completed during the winter cold. Club volleyball. We had everyone but one player involved in club. You can see how much it helped us if you could have seen Filbrun and Ennis play Tuesday night. What a great job. Step two is seen in Coach Eurit's room. We have been running and lifting since the end of last year. We have the "Workout Star of the Month" hanging on her wall. The Bordner's, Jeffra and Shania, have dominated. A special mention is earned by Shania. Allow me to quote another player, "You are the strongest skinny kid I have ever seen!" Shania has posted some impressive gains in the weight room. We also honor Madison Miller, Lauren Worl, and Elizabeth Eurit for their efforts with Jr. High swimming. It was not great fun, but it was a great way to improve cardio, get stronger, and represent Carroll.
Now that brings us to step three, we played at Tipton Tuesday night. What a great opportunity to get the freshmen and returning players together. If nothing else, it would have been worthwhile for that. However, they actually played pretty well. Even more important - they seemed to have fun. A good time on the bus, at the South Pole (huge nacho salads!!!), and then even a bonfire at the Worl's. A big "thanks" to the Worl's for hosting the crew. Following competition, we always offer a "Tip of the Cap" to those players who do something good to help the team. Those can be seen on the home page, but we also list them here with a little more detail similar to what the players see hanging in the school and on their lockers. We hope you enjoy our journey as we try to "Hang a Number" with Carroll volleyball. A TIP OF THE CAP IS OFFERED TO THE FOLLOWING GIRLS FOR PLAY AT TIPTON B. Filbrun served .705 to zone with 3 aces & scored 13 pts. and she passed a 2.0 and was never aced. This tip goes beyond the numbers. She served aggressively and moved pretty well on the court. NIce. L. Eller served .769 to zone with 4 aces & scored 9 pts. Not a bad start after not seeing a volleyball for 9 months. Meghan Miller was a perfect 1.0 to zone with 1 ace & 4 pts. The serves were a little loopy, but she never missed a zone. Two of our incoming freshmen helped us in serve receive. M. Willoughby passed 1.71 and was aced twice. Madison Miller passed 1.57 and was aced once. B. Ennis earns a tip for her general improvement in play and leading us in hitting at .166 (3-2/6). She also added a couple of blocks. Great Job Brooke! |
