Their computer program is similar to the one used by the NCAA in their selection process for volleyball, baseball, softball and basketball. So how does this thing spit us out at number four.
The important number is a Z rating. It is based on the 25 points needed to win a high school set. We currently sit 4th in 2A and 33rd best in the state at 20.38. The Z rating for a school is made up by including match scores, set scores, the Rating Percent Index (known to college basketball fans as RPI), our SOS (strength of schedule), and weighted wins if against a top 25 or top 64 team.
Specific to Carroll we find that we have not lost a match, winning 3-0 or 2-0, losing only a single set vrs. Rossville. Not only are we winning, but we are dominating some sets, beating West Central 25-5 for example. This portion of the index loves us - a lot. The index does not like our strength of schedule. I am very excited by how far we have come this past year, but the fact is we are beating up on Mother Teresa and the Sister's of the Poor volleyball teams, apologies to South Newton. Our SOS is 265th. There are 368 varsity teams in Indiana. We could win the three matches and drop in the polls as N. White, Delphi, and Sheridan will not increase our SOS in any way shape or form.
