We are undefeated in the conference as is Eastern. Fantastic job in serve receive by Hammond, Jones, McMains, Viney, and May. M. McMains carried us on offense with help from A. May and M. Viney. Serving was a flop. Ten misses is too many. P. Jones missed serve on two set points. G. Ayres shined. Makayla was the Player of the Match. Numbers after the break.

The Tip of the Cap went to M. McMains. She scored 17 points (13 kills & 4 aces), hit .480 (13-1/25), and completed a double-double with kills and digs (12). We want to acknowledge J. Herron for six aces, A. May for passing 2.08 (25/12), P. Jones for leading us in kills with 16 (16-6/37= .270), A. May with 23 assists, K. Hammond with 2 total blocks (both solos), and Adelle with 19 digs. Updated passing numbers after the break.
The two fastest routes to the floor are pass the ball well and serving the ball well. Especially the passing part in serve receive.
I keep hoping that J. Seward or J. Herron make the jump passing. They both trended up during the summer, but now that we are keeping numbers for real, they have regressed. Unless Jil breaks a leg, her serving will always provide a path to the court. Jenna's has improved to the point, I am considering options to get her serving more. Currently, her improved defense is earning her court time. Life would be so much easier if I did not have to hide her and she could receive. Especially since P. Jones and Kelsey's passing numbers have also taken a hit since the scrimmage. None of the freshmen have made the jump when it starts to click. I am able to get M. Pontigo and G. Ayres a little bit of playing time as they serve well enough and can play defense. They can provide K. Hammond a chance to come off the court, hydrate, and sit for a second. Tonight, M. Ashby will fill that role. Passing numbers after the break. This message has an attachment. A link to the attachment may be found at the end of the message.
TO: Volleyball Athletic Directors, Head Coaches, & Officials FROM: Kerrie Schludecker, Assistant Commissioner DATE: August 26, 2019 Re: Volleyball Uniform Bottoms This communication is to clarify NFHS Volleyball Uniform Rule 4-2-1(f). There seems to be some confusion regarding brand-named uniform bottoms with logos on the waistband (see attachment). Per the NFHS uniform rule, one manufacturer logo is permitted on the garment. Uniform bottoms containing the brand name on the garment and on the waistband are illegal. [bold is my added] NFHS 4-2-1(f): f. A single partial/whole manufacturer's logo/trademark/reference, no more than 2¼ square inches with no dimension more than 2¼ inches, is permitted on each piece of the uniform provided placement does not interfere with the visibility of the player's number. We had a ton of positive numbers. For example. we only missed six serves. Holy mackerel did Rossville miss a boatload of serves. We were aced twice! Meanwhile, we aced Rossville 12 times. Hit .253 as a team. And yet we struggled to beat Rossville after the 1st set. Why? It is something to ponder. My guesses are just that, guesses. Rossville was fortunate on a handful of their tips and pushes and some lucky bounces. They were aided by the fact we did play great defense. We only had 21 digs for the night. Lastly, the bottom of our service order was uber-conservative with their serve scoring one point in three sets of play. That is a long winded way of saying, "Your guess is as good as mine."
Here are some results involving teams on our schedule or might be on our schedule at a tournament.

Winning two sets and keeping the competition in single digits provides us a glimpse of the opportunities before us.
In fact one kid serves as a living breathing example of the challenges and opportunities we have. Allow me to introduce you to Morgan Viney on September 20, 2019. Morgan will pass 15 balls on the night. The challenge is holding it together when she was aced on four of the first seven receptions and had 1.0's on the other three. She was passing 0.42 after one pass to start the 2nd set. Morgan took advantage of the opportunity to keep playing, stay strong mentally, trust in her skill base, and improve. Over her last eight receptions she passed 2.37. Tips of the Cap went to Kelsey Hammond for serving and blocking, Jenna Seward for serving, passing in defense, and Makayla McMains for offense. The team also earned one as we started the season 1-0 for the 8th straight year. I almost mentioned Morgan, but missing three serves out of 19 attempts is too many. The worst thing that came out of the night was we provided hope to Rossville. They did not look good on Monday then go five with Frankfort on Tuesday. They have to feel positive about that. Then to see we lost a set to Caston. They really should be feeling their oats. We have to appreciate the passing numbers that A. May has put up over the last two practices. Adelle and M. Viney give us a heck of a one - two punch in passing. We also have to appreciate the hitting numbers posted by a number of girls, but we need to temper our enthusiasm a bit as we earn those numbers hitting against a number of the freshmen.
